Two dear friends/colleagues are running crowdfunds for nifty books right now, and you should totally support them.
One only has four days left: the mighty Michael Jan Friedman — New York Times best-selling author of dozens of nifty-keeno books, a lot of which have the words “Star Trek” on the cover — has put together his first collection of short fiction, Cabal and Other Irresponsible Invocations of the Muse. Mike’s a great guy and an excellent writer — back in the 1990s, I hired him to write a bunch of Marvel Comics-based novels and short stories, as well as stories for my Trek anthologies, and he and I both labored in the Trek novel mines together for many years — and he’s an excellent short story writer. This is something very much worth supporting. So go support it!
Elsewhere, eSpec Books’s latest project is a tie-in to Hal Greenberg’s role-playing game The Awakened, specifically an anthology of short stories set in the RPG’s universe. The Awakened: Modern features stories by Greenberg and Stoker Award winner James Chambers, as well as Ed Greenwood, Ty Johnson, Torah Cottrill, Ken Shannon, Erik Scott de Bie, Jennifer Brozek, Drew Bittner, and Walt Ciechanowski. So check it out, too!
