midweek music: “Paul Cézanne”

The Five Chinese Brothers are perfectly named, as they aren’t brothers, they aren’t Chinese, and there’s only four of them. I first saw them playing a club in New York in the 1990s back when I worked for Byron Preiss, and I fell in love with this hilarious song about Paul Cézanne called, appropriately, “Paul Cézanne.” I adore this song if for no other reason than it gives us the line, “Now his oeuvre‘s in the Louvre,” and despite the fact that Cézanne in fact is not the father of cubism, not even a little bit.
