One of the things about performing for a long time is that you have a lot of material to choose from, and some things get lost in the shuffle. When he was the front guy for Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler had two big hits: “Sultans of Swing” in 1977 and “Money for Nothing” in 1984. The latter has one of the ten best guitar riffs in the history of rock and roll, right up there with “Sunshine of Your Love,” “Aqualung,” “Innagaddadavida,” etc.
Knopfler’s been a solo act for quite some time, but this year for the first time in a long time, he’s pulled “Money for Nothing” out of mothballs. Here it is from a concert this year in Milan.
