Above is the newly revealed cover to an essay collection coming out soon from the fine folks at Crazy 8 Press: ZLONK! ZOK! ZOWIE! The Subterranean Blue Grotto Guide to Batman ’66–Season One. Edited by Jazzy Jim Beard, with assistance from Rollickin’ Rich Handley, ZZZ is the first of three unique guides to the 1966 Adam West vehicle, in which each essay is about one of the Bat-stories, each taking a unique look at it.

My own contribution is about the second story of the series, “Fine Feathered Finks”/”The Penguin’s a Jinx,” in which I look at how some of the show’s tropes hadn’t yet been adopted this early, and also examined the view the show took of prison reform, still a new and controversial field in the mid-1960s.

Besides me, Jim, and Rich, contributors include:

  • comics artist Ed Catto
  • Revolution SF‘s Joe Crowe
  • fellow tie-in authors Kevin Dilmore & Dayton Ward
  • one-time Bat-writer Chuck Dixon
  • The Batcave Podcast‘s John S. Drew
  • Bat-historian Pat Evans
  • Batman: Knightcast‘s Chris Franklin
  • Batman: 100 Greatest Moments author Robert Greenberger
  • The 13th Dimension‘s Dan Greenfield
  • comics writer Paul Kupperberg
  • pulp author extraordinaire Will Murray
  • comics writer and historian Alan J. Porter
  • Batmobile replica builder Mark Racop
  • comics historian Peter Sanderson
  • comics critic Steven Thompson
